WOS-15 Above Ground Oil/Water/Solids Separator

The mechanical oil/water separator system is designed to remove free oils from wash water before discharging to sanitary sewer. Applications for this system are vast and include cars, equipment, ATV’s and recreational vehicles.

Using a Pressure Washer Correctly

Pressure washers can reduce water use 4 times, 8 times and even 10 times the normal rate by pressurizing it, then discharging it through specifically designed wants and tips that produce different types of spray that fit in line with whatever the job may be.

Things to focus on in 2022:

Reducing water usage, increasing washing efficiency, reducing liability.

A standard garden hose discharges water at an average rate of 10 gallons per minute. If a business uses the hose water for 5 mins per application, five times a day, that comes out to 250 gallons per day of water use. Using a simple calculation, one can determine that a business can easily use over 65,000 gallons of water per year. Lets now compare it to a pressure washer. A standard pressure washer uses about 3.5 gallons per minute. The pressure washer cuts the work time from 5 mins to 3 mins but still washing the same amount, times five. That’s 52.5 gallons of water per day. Using the same calculation, we come to a total water usage of 13,650 gallons per year.

Benefits of Using a Pressure Washer

Pressure washers can reduce water use 4 times, 8 times, even 10 times the normal rate.  By pressurizing it, then applying it through wands/tips producing spray patterns specific to the task, reduces water consumption and greatly reduces the time the job requires.

Some things to focus on this summer are:

Reducing water usage.

Reducing chemical usage.

Increasing washing efficiency and less equipment down time washing/cleaning.

Reducing liability. Less water used, less chemical used, less chance water escaping contained wash area.

A standard garden hose with city water pressure discharges water at an average rate of 10 gallons per minute. Let’s say that a business uses the water hose with nozzle with ball valve for 15 minutes per piece of equipment, five times a day. That is 750 gallons per day of water used. Using simple math, one can determine a business can easily use 180,000 gallons of water per year. Now using the same basic equation as a starting point, compare that to using a pressure washer, the results are dramatically different. A standard commercial/industrial pressure washer uses about 3.5 gallons of water per minute. The use of pressurized water cuts the work time from 15 minutes to 10 minutes (conservatively) but still, using equal washing times for both methods. That is 262.5 gallons of water per day. Using the same calculations, no consideration taken for time saved with pressurized water verse hose, we come to a total water use of 63,000 gallons of water used per year. That’s a 177,000 gallons of water saved per site.  In other words, 177,000 gallons that could be saved or if on a limited water supply applied to another task, retained for emergency situations or eliminate many water truck deliveries.

 The water savings in this article are linier.  In reality, they can be much higher when you factor real application values.  Such examples are higher volume leaks and inefficiencies using a hose, or going the other way,  water reuse technologies, time reducing attachments speeding up the task specific to a application, or like as many of our clients having multiple locations-wash sites, much higher volumes of washing or much larger more complex washing/de-mudding applications, or jobsite washing which is a completely different set of water balancing issues Ag, Emergency Services, General Eng-Construction, Government agencies & Utilities struggle with.  No matter the application a properly configured-maintained piece equipment, Best Management Practices (BMP’s) and good communication about the value/liabilities of water savings with team members who use the water will save you a lot of waste across the board.
